I’ve watched a lot of videos covering social media and why B2B and B2C should use it but this I have to say really stands out. I like the way you’ve incorporated the most pertinent facts and figures in an easy and understandable way without making the viewer as if they are an idiot.

Kudos

Nice video! Making social media hit home for B2B companies is typically an uphill battle, but solid stats are always a great way to bring credibility to presentations.

I fail to see how this video presents strong data for why B2B companies should consider social media. Most of the stats are general Social Media and Internet stats. A stat like “in one year Facebook grew by more than 200 million users” means nothing to a B2B marketer.

Also, most of these stats are related to a B2C context like “40% of Facebook users become fans or followers of brands and services”. Saying that this is a B2B stat is false. This is most likely is for consumer brands. Another prime example of this is “90% of people skip TV ads” – what does that have to do with a B2B marketer who isn’t advertising on TV anyways.

I really hope that people don’t use these statistics to make the business case for why you should use social media, because most executives will see right through this. If you want to make the business case you need to find relevant statistics like:

1) How many of your competitors are using social media and to what extent (followers, fans, etc…)
2) How much will Social Media impact our search engine visibility
3) How many leads can be generated? (you will need to find other B2B cases to support this)
4) Are our prospects even on LinkedIn, Facebook or Twitter? If so, how many? – Find them.

Here are just a couple of stats your boss is gonna wanna see. Don’t waste your time, or theirs using the stats from this video, they won’t help you.
